The Waving Queen

ocotillos wave in the wind in a glowing desert

The Waving Queen - Watercolor painting on 300 lb paper - 22" x 30"

In the desert the saguaro is king, and if that is so, the ocotillo is queen.  The spindly arms of the ocotillo wave and bend in the wind,  The ocotillo is resilient.  It drops all it's leaves during periods of drought, to restrain the need for water.  Then when it does rain, new leaves grow, and the plant blooms.  Hummingbirds love the bright red blossoms, and they are so expectant of a meal that they will check out every ocotillo even when the plant is not blooming.  That nectar must be good stuff!

This painting is not currently matted or framed.
