Quails in Paradise

Gambels Quail Picacho Peak watercolor

Quails In Paradise - Watercolor painting on paper - 18" h x 24" w

Picacho Peak stands in the background while these two Gambel's quail enjoy life and wait for their chicks to arrive.  The prickly pear cactus are in bloom as well as the California poppies and the waving ocotillo.  Could it be any better than this in the springtime Sonoran desert? Gambel's quail are a favorite subject for me to paint.  Most of the public enjoy seeing them along the trails as they hike, and even the roads as they drive.  If you spend some time camping out somewhere near a water source you're likely to see several families of the quail moving about at dawn and dusk.

This original is currently matted and framed.

Monitor settings may make a difference in the colors and values you see.  I've adjusted these photos to look as close to the originals as possible, but I cannot see what is on your monitor.  There is more information on my FAQ page about monitor settings.
