The original watercolors on this site, listed as currently available, are subject to frequent change and to limited availability since each is an original separate work of art, and therefore one-of-a-kind. Southwest art is my genre, because I live it and love it.
Art on paper is a favorite for some artists like me. Paper allows the artist to produce a lot of paintings with little space taken up in the studio. Most of my larger watercolors are on 300 lb. rag paper. A few are on watercolor board. The smaller works are frequently on 140 lb. Watercolors also reproduce well, seemingly better than art on canvas. The white of the paper seems to backlight the paint and make the painting glow.
Just to be sure that you understand: These are original watercolors, hand drawn and painted. These are not digital manipulations from software programs that give the user a 'watercolor'. That isn't a watercolor but is a watercolor looking photograph.
Since I use mostly transparent watercolor and it is rare for me to use white paint, I suppose my technique is considered traditional. I can't say that I never use white paint, but it doesn't occur very often.
I do have some works that are on watercolor board that are
varnished and do not require framing under glass because they are
protected by the varnish. Technically, varnishing a watercolor
makes it an acrylic. That opens up a huge long discussion
about purity and what's right and what's wrong. I just tell
you up front if it's a watercolor that is varnished, and you can
decide what you want.
A lot of my work has been published in several forms by companies
who have purchased the licensing rights, for certain uses, for
determined amounts of time. Therefore, some originals are not placed
on the market for a long time due to those agreements.
I have also saved certain pieces for myself and my family. No, that doesn't mean they "didn't sell". Until the past few months they have not been placed in the marketplace for sale. For a number of years I held on to the originals so that the prints I produced would remain as close to the original as possible, and so that I could carefully consider what I wanted to do with them . Did I want them for myself? Did my son and his children want some of them? As the years have passed my stock of originals has grown, and I've now decided that I want to find the right home for each of the paintings here. They aren't children being adopted out. They are only paintings. But each of them has an owner in the universe and it's time for them to meet with the person who wants to own them.
Many of my watercolors are sold before I can put them up here. I do festivals and fairs and sometimes a new work goes to the fair and is never seen here. I'm working at changing that. I've promised myself and my customers that I will be more diligent about placing works on the site immediately so that everyone has a fair shot at making the purchase of a new piece of work.
So if you have an interest in owning an original you might
consider emailing me to learn what is available at your point of
interest. It will benefit us both if you will specify what subject
matter, size and budget range.
Monitor settings may make a difference in the colors and values you see. I've adjusted these photos to look as close to the originals as possible, but I cannot see what is on your monitor. There is more information on my FAQ page about how to see if your monitor needs to be adjusted.
