The beautiful and active ocotillo is one of the favorite plants of visitors to the Sonoran desert. The plant turns to leafless brown sticks during periods of drought, and at the first rain produces green leaves and beautiful flaming flowers that draw hummingbirds and butterflies. We have many cacti here in the southwest with an almost endless variety of blooms that are only seen in the spring, and only after a winter with sufficient rains to allow flower production. Many visitors to the southwest come in the winter, but leave before the cacti bloom.
Monitor settings may make a difference in the colors and values you see. I've adjusted these photos to look as close to the originals as possible, but I cannot see what is on your monitor. There is more information on my FAQ page about monitor settings.
