
The ocotillo is a favorite, and I've never really figured out why. I think it may be because it is an active plant. It moves in the wind. It waves and dips and it's little red flower flags are pretty, and it's just different from all the other desert plants.
They are fun to paint because if it's a dry winter, there are no leaves, no flowers, just sticks. Come winter rains, and all of a sudden it's a wonder to behold and every hummingbird in the county seems to find it.
