The ocotillo and the hedgehog in the high Sonoran desert in Arizona. The ocotillo is blooming. That event can have a short life. It blooms after a rain and then drops the blossoms and its leaves during drought. It's an interesting plant to paint because of the numbers of 'whips' that it can have. In areas of little ground water it may have just four or five 'whips', and in an area with a lot of water, or where a lot of water collects, it can have twenty or thirty 'whips'.
Monitor settings may make a difference in the colors and values you see. I've adjusted these photos to look as close to the originals as possible, but I cannot see what is on your monitor. There is more information on my FAQ page about monitor settings.
